Hardly any other camera development has revolutionized the future of underwater filming as much as the TORPEDOCAM. Thomas Behrend, who is a skilled mechanical engineer, developed this camera system himself to be able not only to follow the fast movements of animals under water but also to show their faces. The Torpedocam is towed behind a boat, a monitor displays the images and enables to control the camera. Being curious lots of animals come very close, up to 50 mm, to the camera. These intense close-ups inspired director Jacques Perrin that much that he asked Thomas Behrend to construct a bigger Torpedocam for his cinema production Oceans.
